Today we pick up with the second in our series of posts about bathroom trends – inspired by Lisa Millbacher’s presentation at Trend Talk earlier this year. Lisa Millbacher studied Interior Design at Design Time in Cape Town and has over 10 years’ experience in the bathroom and interiors industry. Her company, Bespoke Bathrooms, has a distinctive signature in the work they do which blends both classic and contemporary design influences.
Lisa travels extensively to the big trade fairs in Italy and Germany, and we are delighted that Plascon Trends is able to share her insights into bathroom trends for 2012/2013. In particular, we are focusing on all things modern and sleek in this post.
One trend that has emerged very strongly is modular furniture design in bathrooms, such as these “be yourself” spaces (see images below) which were showcased by Sieger Design launched at ISH 2011 (a trade fair held in Frankfurt). It seeks to “design” rather than “install” bathrooms and for these to be furnished tastefully. It’s also clear from these images that light, wooden furnishing details are another strong trend in these clean and airy bathrooms…
To this end you will find that most of the technologies for the various fittings are hidden away. For example, in the case of these washstands, all that is visible is the spout and two tabs.
This range continues the development of open plan bathrooms, and, as noted in our previous bathroom trends post, the traditional boundaries between the bedroom and the bathroom are being transgressed to evolve into a more spacious and appealing interior space.
So, what do you think? Are you ready to have a beam-me-up-scottie bathroom installed in your home? Do you long for a sleek, modern and clutter-free space such as one of the above? As always, we love to hear your comments!
