Today we publish the last post in our series on Bathroom Trends for 2012/2013, inspired by the presentation that Lisa Millbacher – of Bespoke Bathrooms – gave at Trend Talk earlier this year. The trend we’re focusing on is “Black & White” bathrooms; it all seems to dovetail quite nicely with the Vertical Impact post by Kim Bougaardt earlier this week which detailed black & white stripe influences in fashion and decor.
The above image is a perfect illustration of how the trend in Retro bathroom furniture fuses elegantly and seamlessly with the black and white furniture trend.
Lisa treated us to a review of The Boundary Hotel (voted by Conde Naste Traveller as the “Best New Hotel” in 2010) in which each room has been inspired by a legendary designer or design movement that the hotel owner, Terence Conran, admires. The bathroom above was by Polly Dickens (her great grandfather was author Charles Dickens), and she sought to portray some of the great author’s spirit in the design.
And if you’re thinking about a black and white theme for a bathroom, you do need to be wary of the scheme being dull and lack-lustre… One solution to this problem is to incorporate some high-gloss enamel furniture pieces as a way of bringing interesting textures into the scheme.
Alternatively, you can bring pattern into your scheme by using a wall treatment – perhaps a paint detail like the vertical stripes in the first image above, or otherwise a wallpaper treatment as per the next two images.
Or perhaps some magnificent, statement tiling will be the focal point of your black and white scheme?
But, if you want to know my personal favourite then this would be it… a black and white bathroom adjoining your wardrobe – perhaps it’s my fashionista tendencies! How effortless and brilliant is this?! Slipping from soapy suds into your outfit for the day without missing a beat!
