It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and, for a change, our Colour Experts did not nominate Pink as our Colour of the Month in October… I did give a nod to ‘berry’ tones last week, but this round of Colour Candy Inspiration is specifically and especially dedicated to this very important month of awareness in women’s health.
Like The Steve Tyler says: “Pink – it’s my new obsession”.
Pink October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Going “pink” and contributing to the fight against this insidious disease is very important to many companies these days; so much so that there are a plethora of major international brands who develop specific packaging and activities to this end for the month of October.
Now I know the cynics among you will say that this is just big business jumping on the bandwagon and looking to drive sales by aligning with a cause, but personally (and these are entirely my own views), I don’t mind as much if their decisions are driven by bottom-lines and profit as long as they’re putting their money where there branding is and contributing to breast cancer research and raising awareness…
If seeing some pink branding during the month of October makes women pause and consider an examination or check-up, well then in my books they can have their sales… Which is why I’ve put together some imagery and pink inspiration of brands that have done just this:
And of course the connotations to breasts, milk and mother’s milk are obvious, which is why I thought it quite a neat and clever idea of Fair Cape to brand all their milk in pink for the month of October:
All of this is great and good and interesting and colourful, but it is not to forget the very serious nature of this subject and, most importantly, the women who have, are and will struggle to overcome this disease – everyday heroines, as well as all the mothers, sisters, daughters, cousins, aunts, nieces and friends who didn’t and who are missed every day by their loved ones.
This is not a month that should become tiresome and overdone, because at its heart it must still be about acknowledging the bravery and courage of so many women… So here’s to celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness month!
