Plascon Colour Inspiration Session #6 – Trendy Teal
I have always adored peacocks for their magnificent plumage, which is full of so many iridescent and inspiring shades of colour… In particular, there’s the universally flattering shade of teal! The ultimate combination of blue and green, it makes for the perfect blend of simplicity and sophistication when applied to both clothing and interiors. It’s why Plascon Spaces has made it the Colour of the Month in celebration of spring!
Why is teal our Colour of the Month?
When September comes around every year, it’s officially (hopefully) spring; the perfect time to start celebrating all things bright and bursting with life. Teal is the colour that will do just that! It’s fresh, crisp, right on-trend and the ideal blend of blue and green to welcome in the most enlivening season of them all.
What’s so hot about teal?
Teal is one of those colours that somehow looks good on everyone and appeals to both women and men, as well as managing to work well with a range of other colours and shades. For this reason it has always had its followers and fans, but more so now than ever before.
From fashion, cosmetics and jewelry to the latest décor and design, teal has become a firm favourite in 2012 – vibrant teal jeans have been seen everywhere, from runway to street, and, no doubt, it will spread even further this season.
Plascon’s favourite teals…
Casa del Mar (B2-C2-1) – from the Plascon 2013 Colour Forecast – is a classic trendy teal. Crystal Sea (B2-C2-2) is lighter version for a softer look.
Is it right for you?
Being a colour cousin of turquoise, teal shares a great many characteristics with this energetic blue. Both colours fit personalities who are self-sufficient and ambitious, yet subtle and perceptive – the kind of people who strive for peace and stability, and enjoy sharing beautiful things.
Is it right for your room?
Because it balances energy and peace, teal will make a fabulous feature wall in a living area. It can also be used to create a particularly calming and tranquil mood – the more so when added to neutrals and taupes. Take advantage of this by using it in the bathroom or bedroom.
Which colours make it work better?
- NATURALS – as mentioned above, teal is even more relaxing when used with neutrals and earth tones.
- BROWN – teal and brown make a lovely complementary combo, as we saw at the Plascon Dare stand at Decorex Joburg, designed by Egg Design (see pic, right).
- METALLICS – shiny and shimmering colours look even more so when paired with teal.
- ORANGE AND RED – a very fashionable way to use teal at the moment is with its complimentary colour, red. Similarly it also works well, and is given a contemporary edge, when used with bold orange.
- PINK – teal and fuschia pink are another great, on-trend pair… for people who enjoy brights.
TIPS on using it in your space…
Teal looks beautiful and has great impact as a full wall colour in bedrooms and bathrooms. But it also makes a great accent colour for smaller spaces; even in small doses, it still adds sophistication and richness to any look.
Alternatively, you can always introduce it in well-placed accessories trimmings, like carpets, rugs, cushions, ornaments, art, doorways and skirtings.
So, where and how will you be introducing teal into your living space this spring? Let us know, and be sure to post your pics to our Facebook page!
