Since being named colour of the year by Pantone we have seen Emerald green everywhere. As it is the birth stone of May we thought we would dedicate this month to this elegant, glamorous and very trendy jewel-like hue.
Pantone Colour of the Year – Emerald Green
Emeralds are not only sophisticated, luxurious and elegant, they are known to balance the heart and bring calm by removing fears. They are said to be the symbol of rebirth and are believed to bring foresight and good fortune to the owner. The colour inspires insight and promotes harmony and balance.
As Leatrice Eiseman the Director of the Pantone Colour Institute says, the qualities of Emerald “bring a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world.”
Like the first leaves of spring, green is also the colour of growth, rejuvenation and regeneration. It is a balancing colour and if you are unsure about a room’s colour scheme, often some green plants are all that is needed to give the room a more harmonious feel.
Emerald green can be used in any room of the house, either as a wall colour or an accent colour.
Emerald green can be formal or casual and relaxed, so consider the mood you would like to create, or use it anywhere you would like to feel nurtured and close to nature – a place where you can relax and reflect.
Emerald green is a great colour to use on furniture to create an atmosphere that connects us with nature.
Green is often called nature’s neutral, as it goes with all the colours of the spectrum. One only needs to look in the garden to see the endless shades of green coexisting happily.
Red is the complementary colour to green; they are opposite each other on the colour wheel and when used together the colours are enhanced and balanced. Just think of a red rose.
Green also works beautifully with other neutrals; I love it with purple, and we are bound to see plenty of green with yellow as Brazil gets more attention due to the 2016 Olympics.
The closest Plascon colour to Emerald is Major Green G5-A1-1; this colour is great for accessories like furniture, cushions and picture frames.
Other greens to consider include Dragon’s Hide G2-C1-1 featured in our Plascon 2013 Colour Forecast, Hunter’s Prairie G4-C1-1, Ground Cover G3-C1-2, Barbados Bay G5-B1-1 and Flower Stem G4-B1-1.
Life is so busy today and most of us live pretty stressful lives; a green scheme can help restore balance in our lives, providing a refreshing retreat and helping us feel grounded and at one with nature.
The colour green resonates with people who are down to earth, sociable, sensitive people; those who have a strong social conscience and always strive to do the right thing; those who are considered dependable and hardworking, always striving to achieve balance, harmony and stability in their lives.
The new beauty house Sephora has also introduced emerald into their make up range…
