Anne Roselt, Plascon Colour Manager
We are staying with gemstone inspiration this month, as featured in the latest issue of Plascon Spaces Magazine. As the winter chill sets in, what better gem to get inspiration from than the ruby. The ruby is said to balance the heart, help build self-esteem and confidence, and boost our energy levels.
Plascon Colour Inspiration Session #12 – Ruby Red
June Colour of the Month – Ruby Red
Ruby Red stimulates us emotionally and physically; it is passionate, energetic and hot; red makes a statement and we are sure to see a lot of these rich hues this winter.
The deeper tones of red, like ruby, have a richness and elegance and will add drama and sophistication to whatever room they are used. Reds with more of an orange tone are seen as more fun loving, outgoing and warm.
Red is a warm, action-oriented colour and is therefore best used in places that require warmth or physical action, such as a front door, staircase, hall or dining room.
Red is a great colour for a kitchen. It stimulates the appetite and makes us feel energetic and motivated. Bear in mind that it is a warm colour, so this needs to be taken into consideration.
Red’s strength of character can sometimes be difficult to live with, so instead of painting all the walls red you could just paint a feature wall.
Ruby Red works extremely well with neutrals like black, white, grey and wood tones.
To balance the energy of red, introduce its complementary colour green or turquoise – this can be done with accessories like pictures and cutlery or with green plants.
You can also introduce the colour in your furnishings, giving furniture a contemporary look. It doesn’t have to be the entire cupboard, it could just be the shelves or backing.
If you love red, why not consider painting your front door in this colour? It makes such a welcoming and elegant statement.
And just like Grey, Ruby Red is part of a book trilogy.
Red personalities are full of self-confidence; they are achievers who are unafraid to take risks and are passionate about life; they are extroverted, impulsive, competitive, energetic, daring and assertive. Red people enjoy being centre of attention.
