Following on from 2012’s high energy Tangerine Tango, Pantone yesterday announced the Pantone Colour of the Year 2013 – Emerald. This jewel-like hue is not only sophisticated, luxurious and elegant; emeralds are known to balance the heart and bring calm by removing fears. The colour inspires insight and promotes harmony and balance. Green is also the colour of growth, rejuvenation and regeneration.
As Leatrice Eiseman, the Director of the Pantone Colour Institute, says, the qualities of emerald “bring a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world.”
Pantone Colour of the Year 2013 – Emerald
The closest Plascon colour to Emerald Pantone 17-5641 is Major Green G5-A1-1. While a bit bright for a broad wall paint colour, this vivid jewel tone is a great accent colour for where you would like a flash of colour. Accessories including cushions, towels and the like will look amazing in emerald.
Green is very reflective of our environment and that is why it is such an easy colour to live with. One only needs to look in the garden to see the endless shades of green coexisting in harmony. Life is so busy today and most of us live pretty stressful lives; a green scheme can help restore balance in our lives, providing a refreshing retreat and helping us feel grounded and at one with nature.
Green was one of the colours featured in Plascon’s 2013 Colour Forecast. Dragons Hide G2-C1-1 is used below as an accent colour to an otherwise neutral colour scheme.
Sephora cosmetics will be launching this colour in a beauty collection in March next year, including nail polish, eye shadow and accessories.
I, for one, can’t wait to see how this colour takes off in fashion and interior design next year too. Here’s to the world going a lot more “green”.
