We are dedicating the first month of 2014 to the Pantone Colour of the Year – Radiant Orchid. With a beautiful harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, what’s not to love about this colour? And if last year’s Pantone Colour of the Year (Emerald) is anything to go by, we are sure to be seeing Radiant Orchid everywhere – in fashion, cosmetics, and, of course, interiors.
“While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”
Introducing the Pantone Colour of the Year 2014 – Radiant Orchid
Pinks have been popping up all over the place for the last few years, and Radiant Orchid with edgy undertones of purples and pinks is sure to fit right in. While you may not want to go and paint your entire house with it, it is a fantastic accent colour which will make a room pop.
Liven up interior spaces by incorporating this hue in paint, furniture and accessories. It will be an uplifting addition to a neutral scheme of white, cream or grey tones, but this adaptable and beautiful colour can be used in combination with shades of green from deeper hunter greens to olive and teal. It also looks beautiful with turquoise, metallics and its complementary colour, light yellow.
White and silver…
Greys and metallics…
Greens and purple make a wonderful combination, as can be seen in the image below:
Purple and orange is also a contemporary combination…
A slightly darker version of Radiant Orchid (Cloud Terrace) is featured on the cover of the Plascon 2014 Colour Forecast. A slightly lighter and brighter Plascon Lily Pink P6-A1-2 is the closest Plascon colour match to Radiant Orchid.
We also feature purple and flower colour combinations in the latest issue of Plascon Spaces magazine – at a cost of R19.95 and available in Woolworths, Spar, Exclusive Books, CNA and other select retailers, it well worth it.
