Today we continue with our exploration of the Plascon Colour Forecast 2016 and the DISCOVERY Palette in particular, which, as the name implies, is about looking beyond our planet earth.

Exploration, new discoveries and visual references to outer space and our surrounding atmosphere – this is at the heart of DISCOVERY. Exploration feeds our fascination for the unknown, and also that other quintessentially human desire for escape and wonderment.

With discoveries and new findings in science and space, comes new equipment, and this too informs the surface finishes and materials in the interior styling. DISCOVERY is an enigmatic story of illusory effects and subtle movements.

It is charged with energy and has an array of cool and bright tones, a dramatic and dark backdrop, and the still trending Ombré applications that add an ethereal and weightless feeling to spaces:

The outer galaxies, moons, stars and planets are indeed an inspiring and mesmerising story, with new telescopic images being transmitted back to earth that provide a new vision and visual language of abstract colour.

Tactility is also essential to designing an immersive experience; the illusory surfaces of things, objects and furniture are an open invitation to the viewer to touch and interact with them.

Colour-wise, this palette is a cooling selection of blues and purples brought to life with vibrant accents of yellow and pink (like our Colour of the Month October – Valentino Rose).

There are chalkier pastels which bring a sense of calm to spaces and which help to intensify brights, as well as dramatic contrasts and energetic bright combinations:

This is a captivating collection of colours that are at times harmonious, at times striking, and at times daring.

Tonal gradients give fluidity and weightlessness and add subtle movement and flow within spaces; alternatively, contrasting light and dark for a dramatic and intriguing mix:
