Atlantic Beach was revealed as Plascon’s Colour of the Year 2016. This particular shade of blue seems to summarise the mood for the year to come, and Hannah Malein of GCR London walked us through the key influences and inspirations they drew upon to support their selection of this shade of blue.
Of course the world’s gaze will once again be on South America – more specifically Brazil – for next year’s Olympic Games, and the South American continent is a paradise of colour and texture.
The tropical rainforests abound with exotic species of flora and fauna and there are also the ocean depths off the coastline, all of which allows us to appreciate the ancient craftsmanship of nature.
Atlantic Beach makes a powerful statement and is significant in the arena of sport; it promotes focus and concentration and it is this framing of mind that would-be homemakers, decorators and interior enthusiasts can use in rooms to the same effect. In particular, it can be used to great effect in home offices and work spaces.
It’s also a colour that is popping up all over the place in both local and international design.
In particular, one of Cape Town’s favourite eating spots (formerly “Dear Me” and now Tjing Tjing Torii) was given an “Atlantic Beach” colour makeover by interior designer Francois du Plessis:
