You may have noticed a lot of bright yellow in and around Cape Town lately… Well, get used to it as we are sure to be seeing even more: Having been awarded the title of World Design Capital 2014, the WDC team and associated companies and projects are all spreading yellow.
Plascon Colour of the Month March – Crazy Daisy Yellow!
A great colour choice, “bright yellow” is linked to sunshine and its life-giving energies; it is stimulating and uplifting; it brings feelings of hope and optimism and an air of radiance whenever it is used.
Yellow is the colour of highest visibility. While the actual colour used for World Design Capital 2014 is Pantone109, the closest Plascon paint colour is Crazy Daisy Y4-A1-1
The qualities of yellow make it a great colour for a living area; it brightens up the space and makes it look warm and welcoming. The colour can be cooled down with complementary purple or blue if needed.
Yellow schemes make a statement. If you want the qualities, but feel yellow walls are too much, then consider using it as an accent colour.
Cape-based furniture manufacturer Woodbender supplied these dining chairs (called Karoo) for the meeting room at the head offices of World Design Capital Cape Town 2014. A special commission, WDCCT 2014, requested the Karoo chair be made with a yellow frame with grey webbing. Seems the colour is becoming a hit.
Yellow works like a light and really stands out, especially against a dark background – as seen with the cabinet above. Yellow can also be used at the end of a dark passage to add some light.
If you are nervous to use yellow as a wall colour, consider introducing yellow in your accessories or artwork.
Yellow is a beautiful, warm and welcoming colour for exteriors.
Love what Skinny laMinx has done in Cape Town – not only a WDC2014 window, but also carried through on the storefront façade.
Plascon is pleased to have a project recognized by World Design Capital WDC 358: the Plascon Colour Design Awards. If you are working in the design field, please check the Plascon website for more information on the awards.
