A great colour choice, “bright yellow” is linked to sunshine and its life-giving energies; it is stimulating and uplifting; it brings feelings of hope and optimism and an air of radiance whenever it is used.

Yellow is the colour of highest visibility. While the actual colour used for World Design Capital 2014 is Pantone109, the closest Plascon paint colour is Crazy Daisy Y4-A1-1

The qualities of yellow make it a great colour for a living area; it brightens up the space and makes it look warm and welcoming. The colour can be cooled down with complementary purple or blue if needed.

Yellow schemes make a statement. If you want the qualities, but feel yellow walls are too much, then consider using it as an accent colour.

Cape-based furniture manufacturer Woodbender supplied these dining chairs (called Karoo) for the meeting room at the head offices of World Design Capital Cape Town 2014. A special commission, WDCCT 2014, requested the Karoo chair be made with a yellow frame with grey webbing. Seems the colour is becoming a hit.

Yellow works like a light and really stands out, especially against a dark background – as seen with the cabinet above. Yellow can also be used at the end of a dark passage to add some light.
