On Monday we featured Part 1 on the “Essential Collection”, inspired by an article by Annette Klinger in the PLASCON SPACES magazine. Today is the second of these posts in which we’ll be looking at the next five themes. There are 9 themes in total in the Essential Collection, and the colours range from pastels and beiges to greys, greens and brights – all of which are tried and tested favourites of our paint and colour experts!
Again, the reason for Plascon Colour Manager Anne Roselt compiling the Essential Collection was because we often get feedback from our consumers and readers that they want to spruce up a lounge or kitchen or staircase, but have no idea where to start… This is why Anne picked 108 classic Plascon colours that she knows are the preferred choices of paint professionals. Just as our annual Colour Forecasts are divided into themes to make colour selection an easier process, so too is this collection and each one has its own distinct mood. So here’s a look at Soothing, Confident, Airy, Bold, and Gentle.
As the name would imply, the colours in this set have been specifically chosen for their therapeutic effect and are intended to bring about a sense of emotional stability – which is at root of our attraction to colours.
Tonal shades of yellows and oranges will make a space feel more inviting and warm, and although they pair well with other colours, you can easily use them in a monochromatic scheme.
This theme is full of soft hues, starting from a pale minty green to a subdued cream. These colours will give an ethereal and calming presence to spaces and will look great with white soft furnishing and décor items. In the words of Anne Roselt:
White is the colour of peace, purity, innocence and tranquility. It encourages openness and freedom and gives you space and time to reflect on your life.
As the name would imply, these vivid brights are great for colour-blocking and making a statement; they are ideal for focal walls and/or pieces of furniture. Bold colours, and in particular reds, are stimulating and will awaken your physical life force.
In our final theme of the Essential Collection we find colours that have been inspired by the natural shades of beach sand, shells, driftwood and pebbles. These gentle neutrals are as versatile as they are beautiful. Anne’s advice: “When using them, think of including different textures such as sisal and lamb’s wool to create interest.”
